Supplies and Equipment

Photo and video equipment

The Imaging Lab has the following equipment available for use by currently registered CDes students. This equipment is available for use only within the lab:

35mm cameras and lenses (Nikon)
Studio sets and lights
Copy stand
Charette ModelScope camera (for use with Polaroid Pack films)
- Talk with lab personnel before using the ModelScope. Digital cameras will often work well in lieu of using a ModelScope and are much quicker and easier to set up.
Analog video editing suite (reservation required; two hours per session)
Digital video editing: Please ask lab personnel about current availability and policies
Macintosh PowerPC and Windows 2000 workstations and Epson 3000 ink jet printer (for digital imaging use only)

A reservation may be required during times of heavy use. Sessions may be limited to two hours during times of heavy demand. Check with staff about current conditions. Printing is on a first come, first served basis.

OCE large format black and white copier (for same-size images)

Bond paper sizes are 24- and 36-inches wide by length of original. The copier can also copy to user-supplied vellum or drafting mylar. Choose a medium weight mylar with "tooth" on both sides. Lighter or heavier weight materials may be rejected by the copier's internal sensors and the rollers may slip or pull unevenly on materials with one smooth side.

The following equipment may be used in the lab, or may be checked out for use on academically-related projects. These items should be reserved in advance for use outside the lab. They may be reserved for a maximum of 24 hours, weekdays, or 72 hours on weekends. During times of maximum use, the lab may impose shorter time restrictions on use of cameras. Digital cameras may be reserved for the duration of use. Due to high demand, the lab requests that users do not hold digital cameras longer than two to four hours for each use.
