Access Policy
Who can use the labs and when?
Currently registered CDes students paying the technology access fee (TAF) or course fees for the Architecture and Landscape Architecture drawing classes 1301 and 3301 are allowed access to the computer lab and imaging lab facilities. This access is granted on a per semester basis. If a student is not enrolled during a semester period (i.e., spring, summer, winter semesters), thus not paying the TAF, they may not use the lab facilities without paying the access fee. The labs are available to registered students during semester breaks and the "M" term at no additional charge but please be aware that lab usage may be limited during these breaks due to scheduled maintenance.
Twenty-four hour access is available in the CDes computer labs on a semester to semester basis for TAF paying students. Students can apply for 24-hour access at the computer lab help desk and must renew their access each semester. The computer lab is staffed during regular business hours with one full time employee and a number of student workers. Twenty-four hour access allows students to work in the computer labs during non-business hours, but please be aware that no staff will be available to assist with computer, printer, network, or software problems during these times. If errors do occur, they will not be repaired until the following business day. There is no 24-hour access in the Imaging Lab.
Non-official CDes students (i.e., Masters prerequisite students) or recent graduates doing work related to their degrees (i.e., finishing incompletes or thesis books) may have access to the computer and imaging labs by paying the TAF. This access extension is limited to one semester maximum.
Non CDes students may use the Imaging Lab photographic facilities on a space available basis for an hourly fee. The one-time use rate is $10 per hour, with a limit of two hours. Computer lab usage and cost must be arranged with the computer lab manager and will use a similar per hour rate structure as well as a printer output fee.
CPS and other groups affiliated with CDes can reserve the computer lab during off-peak times for a $50 fee (the same rate charged by Academic Computer Services). Unless prior arrangements have been made with the computer lab manager, these students do not have access to CDes technology.
If you have questions or concerns about access to CDes technology units, please contact the appropriate lab manager: Imaging Lab / Warren Bruland 612-624-4137; Computer Lab / Jeff Williams 612-624-1683.
Lab staff reserves the right to deny service to any person who is unable to follow the CDes published access policies.
