Degree Components

Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Bachelor of Architecture (B.S. Arch), Bachelor of Design in Architecture (B.D.A.), and Bachelor of Environmental Design (B.E.D.) Degree Components
You need to complete a minimum of 120 semester credits to graduate with a bachelor's degree. Your degree will consist mainly of courses in your major and in liberal education (or “generals”).

Liberal Education Requirements (“Lib Eds” or “Generals”):
The same liberal education requirements are shared by all undergraduate U of M majors, and also include writing intensive courses. Read more

CDes Major Requirements:
Your major is the largest portion of your CDes degree.

For the most accurate information about your major requirements check your APAS or program form (for architecture and landscape architecture students).

If your major requires that you do an internship there is internship information available to assist you.

Electives

After you’ve finished all your liberal education and major requirements, you still may not have earned the 120 credits you need to graduate. In this case, you need to take elective credits. These can be courses you take for fun, that complement your major, or that you turn into a minor.

Double Dip

Some courses are approved to meet two requirements! For example, one course may count toward your liberal education requirements AND meet a requirement in your major. One course might also fulfill TWO liberal education requirements. Check out your 4-year sample plan for how major courses meet lib eds. Look in the class schedule for major classes that double dip with the lib eds.
