Professional organizations and associations are groups based around specific professions, fields, or industries.  They are a great way to get involved and meet others in your area of interest.  As a student, it is important to learn about your discipline from current professionals who can inform you of what it is like to work in the industry.  Opportunities to connect and network with professionals are available through events and meetings hosted by the professional organizations/associations. 

Many professional organizations also list job postings on their website or email them through a listserv.  Most often this requires a membership, but many organizations have student memberships discounted.  View the professional organization's website for membership opportunities as well as information about local chapters in the area in which you live.
